Elgin Recycling has 4 full service recycling drop-off centers, three with truck scales, that offer their customers convenience that exceeds all competitors. These locations are usually frequented by residential customers and commercial customers with smaller quantities. They are located in Elgin, Crystal Lake, Elk Grove Township and Gilberts (click here for locations). In Gilberts we have a steel yard for the customers with larger steel loads. With efficiency being a priority, our friendly staff will unload and weigh up your material quickly and pay you cash on the spot. All of our yards have state certified scales that allow you to weigh up material. Most of our yards have a state of the art inventory software program called ROM by 21st Century. This is linked with our scales and records every transaction with pictures for future reference. Having truck scales at 3 of our yards makes processing full steel loads more efficient. Look for the guys in the red hard hats. These managers are there to make your recycling experience a positive one.
Procedures for dropping scrap metal at our recycling drop-off centers:

Pull into our recycling yard where you will be greeted by one of our friendly and experienced employees.

Our employees will unload, grade, and weigh your material.

You will receive a receipt showing the grade and weight of your material.

You will sign your receipt and provide appropriate identification if your total cash payout is over $100. Showing state issued identification for transactions over $100 is an Illinois state law.

You will receive your payment in cash. Customers requiring payment by check will receive a check in the mail within 5 business days.
Make sure you sign up for our monthly drawings when you visit our yards. We give away Cubs tickets, Bulls tickets, Blackhawks tickets, gas cards, cash, as well as many other prizes.
