For more than 30 years, Elgin Recycling Inc. has proudly provided comprehensive and responsible full-service recycling services. But our commitment to the communities we serve goes beyond the tireless work our many dedicated employees provide on a daily basis. We are not only constantly striving to serve our communities, but are also driven to provide them with leadership, particularly in the areas of promoting environmental responsibility and green lifestyles.

It is our goal to share our resources with the community to help make the places we call home better places to live.

We wish to share some of the upcoming community events that we will be involved with:

We will be one of over 200 exhibitors at the fourth annual Elgin’s Green Expo at The Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way, Elgin, on May 4 (1- 8 p.m.) and May 5 (9 a.m.- 4 p.m.).

This family-friendly event, the largest of its kind in the Fox Valley, is suitable for all ages with all exhibitors promoting the benefits of adopting a green lifestyle. It will feature musical entertainment, food and beverages, and children’s activities.

The mission of the event is to showcase awareness, education, and collaborative efforts of sustainable living solutions that will give people a sense of personal empowerment while also meeting contemporary needs and making a positive impact on future generations.

Interactive presentations and speakers will cover a wide variety of environmentally-conscious topics including what happens to recycled materials; energy efficiency; renewable energy; green building materials remodeling, and designs; growing a community garden; tree and lawn care; area watershed conditions; and illustrations of how the Fox River can be used as a power source.

Activities will include a recycled art exposition, a petting zoo, a 5,000-gallon aquarium stocked with fish from the Fox River, and canoe and pontoon excursions on the river.

A Wellness Center will include chair massages and eco-friendly products; an eco bazaar with recycled goods for sale; a garden center selling trees and plants; a farmer’s market featuring a wide and fabulous selection of wine, cheese, and bread; and a Midwest Green Car Expo that will display several of the latest hybrid models.

Recycling bins will be prominently displayed throughout the exposition grounds.

We encourage visitors to commute to and from the event by walking, jogging, or riding bike; by taking a Metra train or Pace bus; or by car pooling.

For more information, call (312) 953-8216.

We will also be participating in an electronics recycling collection event at Nippersink Middle School, 10006 N. Main Street, Richmond, on May 5 (8 a.m.-noon).

We will help participants safely dispose of outdated and used woking and non-working household electronic items.

Items that will be accepted include most battery-powered and electrical cord-attached products including cell phones, digital cameras, camcorders, computers, I-pads, electronic notebooks, VCRs, DVD players, small kitchen appliances, gaming systems, printer cartridges, and extension cords. Televisions and monitors 32 inches and smaller without cracked and broken screens will also be accepted.
