Efforts to Go Green
The Village of Schaumburg has established a Comprehensive Green Action Plan as a commitment to going and staying green. To date they have completed the replacement of all 15 village owned traffic signals using LED technology, the village is installing energy efficient lighting in village facilities, they have also created building standards that include energy efficiency, the Engineering and Public Works Department enacted the Clean Air Initiatives Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in 2002. One component of the Clean Air SOP encourages the purchase of energy efficient appliances and equipment as well as the installation of windows and siding that prevent heating and cooling loss. They have also partnered with School District 54 on an event for recycling, paper shredding, and the distribution of free CFL bulbs.
Village of Schaumburg and Elgin Recycling
Elgin Recycling is proud to say that we have been able to work with the Village of Schaumburg for multiple events some of which include the Holiday Lights program that has been ongoing since 2009 and has proved to be a huge success in creating an outlet for residents to recycle their broken and unwanted holiday lights quickly, easily and responsibly by dropping them off at designated locations throughout the Village. Elgin Recycling also participated in the Village’s 2011 Electronics Recycling event which served as a collection point for residents to drop off anything from old light bulbs, computers, holiday lights, bicycles, batteries and even confidential paper to be shredded on site. Also in September 2011, we participated in the Schaumburg Septemberfest Labor Day parade handing out Plant a Tree cards, Elgin Recycling earth balls, pencils and candy! This relationship has proved to be a good one with the potential to grow even better.
